What We Do
AC4C Youth
AC4C Youth is a state-wide group of 12-18 year olds from across the state that get together to make sure that their voice is heard when making decisions on how to educate other youth about substance abuse.
We are an Action Team of AC4C – the Iowa Alliance of Coalitions for Change.
- Develop and start a media campaign to help increase perception of harm of marijuana
- Work to increase youth minorities’ involvement in AC4C youth committee by having a joint meeting with at least one state minority group
- Support a social media account for youth regarding substance use (Check out our Instagram @AC4Cyouth)
- Train other youth at the Annual Day on the Hill with focus on mental health & substance use
- Work on training and/or information to provide to other youth for the statewide Prevention Conference in November.

Hannah Barker, West Hancock High School
Hi, my name is Hannah Barker and I am a senior at West Hancock High School. I am in our school’s SWAT (Student Wellness Assistance Team) group and our town’s community coalition called ASAP (Alliance Substance Abuse Prevention). In SWAT we help our students learn and help them prevent a drug or alcohol addiction. In ASAP, we go into the town and try to give parents information about drugs and alcohol addiction. Being in SWAT, we have gone to the Day on the Hill conference at the capitol in Des Moines. There I learned about our AC4C group that is for teens across Iowa that are wanting the same thing as me, to help people with their addictions. I joined my sophomore year and have been in it ever since! I am very happy I did sign up for it because it has helped me choose a career in criminal justice, so I can help people follow the laws but also be the best person they can be. AC4C has also given me the opportunity to talk about my experiences with drugs and alcohol by being on the Partnership for A Healthy Iowa’s show Surviving Bad. I love being in AC4C knowing that I am helping teens across Iowa, and the whole entire world while getting the word out about my experiences!
